Collaborative research on "The Long 1960s" was initiated in 2019, centered around the principal investigator, Professor Adachi, and Associate Professor Marco Del Bene of Sapienza University of Rome. The objective of this research is to clarify the issues and structures of contemporary society on a global scale as its starting point, by comparatively examining various aspects, memories, and subsequent changes under the period of high economic growth that occurred worldwide. We are preparing our second co-edited volume and planning international dissemination. Furthermore, regarding the student movements of 1968 around the world—which were a major event during this era—this project aims to translate into English and publish the leaflets produced by students and the records of the university committees that handled the situation, both of which are held by the Archives and made available through the Tohoku University Integrated Knowledge Digital Archive. This translation work will be carried out with the cooperation of students in Japanese language education at Sapienza University of Rome. By translating these historical materials into English, we intend to make them accessible to researchers worldwide and further expand this field of research. In the current academic year, we will host a panel at the Hasekura Symposium in March 2027. Additionally, starting in October, we will conduct an explanatory lecture on the historical materials within a master's course at the Department of Oriental Studies, Sapienza University of Rome, to explain the workflow and seek their cooperation in text digitization and other tasks.
