CIJS Bestows 'Distinguished' Title on Six Professors

The Center for Integrated Japanese Studies has had six of its professors bestowed with the title of Distinguished Associate/Assistant Professor. On October 1st, 2025, the titles were handed out to one associate professor and five assistant professors. Among the six are three professors (one associate professor, two asisstant professors) who were welcomed as new members of the CIJS on the same day. 
 
The title of Distinguished Associate or Distinguished Assistant professor is given by Tohoku University to professors in recognition of stellar contributions and/or achievements in their fields of research, and who play a leading role in the university's educational and research endeavors.
 
The awards were given to the following professors:

  ・Luca Milasi - Distinguished Associate Professor
  ・Tianyuan Huang - Distinguished Assistant Professor
  ・Sebastian Nehrdich - Distinguished Assistant Professor
(Joined the Center in 2024)
  ・Wei Ran - Distinguished Assistant Professor
  ・John D'Amico - Distinguished Assistant Professor
  ・Ajjana Thairungroj - Distinguished Assistant Professor
