The Center for Integrated Japanese Studies (CIJS) is proud to announce that Mimesis International has officially published the book 'Naraku: Discord, Dysfunction, Dystopia.' The book is edited by professor Christopher Craig of the CIJS, and co-edited by assistant professor Olga Kopylova from Tohoku University's Graduate School of Arts and Letters. It is the latest in a series of books published as a result of the Hasekura Symposium, organized by the International Graduate Program in Japanese Studies (GPJS) at Tohoku University.
Naraku: Discord, Dysfunction, Dystopia features research articles from the 2022 edition of the symposium held in Sendai, Japan. At this symposium scholars of Japanese Studies from around the world engaged in lively and multifaceted debate and discussion centered around the titular topic of Naraku (奈落), loosely translatable as 'hell', and how we perceive the depths of despair in various fields of research relating to Japanese Studies.
