Assistant Professor Ajjana Thairungroj's article, 'Reading “The Yūko Incident”: the monstrous feminine at the intersection of Cold War anxieties in “Japanizing” Thailand' has been published in Inter-Asia Cultural Studies, Volume 27(no. 1) .

The article examines representations of a 1986 media event in Thailand involving a Thai girl who claimed to be the daughter of the Japanese ambassador. Situating these representations within escalating Thai and Japanese anxieties over Japan’s presence in Cold War–era Thailand, the article analyzes how concerns surrounding gender, national identity, and race were mediated amid Japan’s expanding regional influence in Southeast Asia.
