Purpose of the event
The Future of the Social Sciences and Humanities The Future of Japanese Studies On October 1, 2023, the Center for Integrated Japanese Studies was founded at Tohoku University. This Center will recruit Japanese Studies researchers from around the world, making them colleagues at the university, and will work to develop cooperative international research with scholars inside and outside of Japan. With the Integrated Knowledge Digital Archive as a base, we will promote the growing field of Digital Humanities in tandem with the traditional Social Sciences and Humanities, forging links between and exchanging methodological approaches with the Natural Sciences and other fields in pursuit of an integration that transcends the walls between disciplines and creates new kinds of knowledge and understanding in the Humanities.

The lectures will be in English. Simultaneous Japanese translation will be available.

At these lectures, the Center has invited two globally preeminent Japanese Studies scholars to speak about the outlook for the Social Sciences and Humanities in Japan and the world and to discuss the future of Japanese Studies.
